Living a healthy life starts with eating and drinking healthy. Fresh vegetables and fruits are the key ingredients of a healthy diet. With the busy life style we have nowadays, it is difficult to meet the recommended 5 servings of vegetables and fruits daily. Recently I discovered an easy-to-use machine that can extract juice from whole fruits and vegetables in a very efficient way. Visit My Favorites to check out the juice fountain. Here are a few easy recipes:

    1) Apple, carrot and orange juice - 4 small Granny Smith apples, 2 medium sized carrots (peeled), 4 oranges (peeled), processed through a juice fountain, makes 32 oz juice.

    2) Pineapple orange juice - 1/2 pineapple (peeled) and 3 oranges (peeled), processed through a juice fountain, makes 32 oz juice.

    3) Apple, grape, carrot and celery juice - 4 small Golden Delicious apples, 2 cups of green grapes, 3 medium sized carrots (peeled), 2 sticks of celery, processed through a juice fountain, makes 32 oz juice.

Medicated Diet is based on dietary meals cooked with regular food but include herb(s) as an ingredient. It can be prepared either from edible Chinese herbs alone, or from Chinese herbs and food, cooked according to certain prescriptions. Ancient Chinese people believed that for the purpose of health care and prevention, Medicated Diet was better than tonic. The legendary Chinese medicine doctor Sun Simiao said in his book Qiang Jing Fang (The Priceless Prescriptions) "if illness is to be treated, treat it with Medicated Diet first, then with drugs if it is not cured."

     Acute Conjunctivitis:

Recipe #1: Cook 2-3 ounces of fresh dandelion (whole) in 3-4 cups of boiling water for 3-4 minutes. Drink the herbal tea every day until symptoms are gone.

Recipe #2: Decoct 3 ounces each of Wild Chrysanthemum Flower and Spinach Seed in 4 cups of water. Drink twice daily for several days.

     Chronic Pharyngitis:

Recipe #2: Soak 3-4 crushed Louhanguos (Fructus Momordicae Grosvenori) in 6 cups of water for 30 minutes. Cook over medium heat for 20 minutes in the same water as you used for soaking the Luohanguos. Drink the concoction, and you may add sugar for taste.

     Morning Sickness:

Recipe #1: Soak oranges in water to remove excessive acid. Decoct soaked oranges in 2 cups of water with some honey to make tea. Drink the tea frequently.

Recipe #2: Soak 4 slices of fresh ginger root in 1 cup of boiling water. Then add some brown sugar. Drink the tea frequently.

Recipe #3: Mix 1 teaspoon of ginger root juice in 1 cup of rice milk. Drink at short intervals.
